GREGG BISSONETTE: The Inside Track - A Live Clinic Event - LEARN MORE

Jason Bittner

Jason Bittner picked up a pair of sticks at a very young age and started destroying his mother’s pots and pans (and whatever else he could get his hand on) until his father finally bought him a drum set when he was 8. In the years to follow, he would study privately, be active in his school bands/orchestras, and eventually head off to study at the prestigious Berklee College of Music in the late 1980s. During the ’90s Bittner spent most of his time playing/touring/recording with a plethora of regional East Coast bands, the most notable being Stigmata, Burning Human, and one-time Metal Blade recording artists Crisis.

For the past 12 years, Jason has held the drum chair for metal giants Shadows Fall, appearing on their albums The Art of Balance, The War Within, Threads of Life, Retribution, and Fire in the Sky, as well the Madness in Manila live DVD. These albums culled two Grammy nominations, and to date the band’s catalog has reached over 1,000,000,000 sales in the United States alone.

Jason is known for his excellent drum clinics, and has been a featured performer at the Modern Drummer Festival, Drummer Live, PASIC, Drum Fantasy Camp, DRUM! Night, and countless other fan-filled clinic tour stops. Jason has been voted Best Up-and-Coming Drummer (2004), Best Metal Drummer (2005, 2006), and Best Recorded Performance (2005, The War Within) in the Modern Drummer Readers Poll, and Best Metal Drummer in 2007 in the DRUM! Magazine Readers Poll. Jason’s book, Drumming Out of The Shadows, co-authored by Joe Bergamini, was voted the #2 award in the DRUM! Reader’s Poll for Best Educational Book in 2008. His Hudson Music educational DVD What Drives the Beat took the #3 Best Educational DVD in the 2009 MD Readers Poll, and Jason was voted 2011’s #2 Clinician in the DRUM! Magazine Reader’s Poll.

Jason has also played with Anthrax, including an extensive tour in 2012, filling in for his hero Charlie Benante. Currently he also is the drummer in the reformed Toxik, a seminal ’80s prog-thrash band with a huge cult following.
